Cat time

I really enjoy doing/buying nice things for my kitty cats….so I just thought I’d share some cool things!

This is such a clever idea, I’m officially on the hunt for an old table to turn into a little kitty bed! Ah, cute!

Here are some cool links!

-Catnip tutorial

-Fortune cookie catnip toy tutorial

-Martha Stewart catnip tutorial and how to actually grow catnip! (I’ve never grown it myself, only cat grass so this is on my lsit of things to do).

-Aha I swear this is so cute! It reminds me of something that would be in hackers….

Try this amazing tutorial….so clever! I have an old suitcase and I think this would make good use of it!

Well I’m off toodles!

Rainbow Cupcake tutorial!

This was the first time I tried baking rainbow sponge cupakes, and I think they turned out okay. But I think I need to start using food coloring gel rather than the liquid. I’ve heard its must better and gives better colors, so I’ll be trying that next time.

I used the hummingbird bakery ‘vanilla cupcake’  recipe. It really doesnt matter which sponge recipe you use, but I must say the hummingbird recipe turned out really yummy! If your not so good with recipes you can always just use a packet mix!

Recipe and ingredients for cupcake sponge and for frosting.

Cupcake liners

Food coloring (of your choice)

piping bag

zip lock bag

sprinkles!

Step 1.

Once I made up the sponge mixture, I divided it into 3 bowls. I made one pink, one green, and one that was meant to be purple but turned out a weird blue/grey color.

Step 2.

Get your zip lock bag, fill it with one color (put the mixture into one corner as this is essentially a piping bag) then pipe just a teaspoon on two into each cupcake liner. You dont want to run out of one color before you’ve gotten around to each case! If you have any left over go back over and see which ones could use a little more. Now repeat for all colors. I put the color just over each other, and it didnt have the perfect layered effect that I’d hoped but you could really play around with it. Like you could put all the pink on one side and it would turn out all randomized. You can really have fun so dont follow the rules with the layering too much!

Step 3.

Bake your cuppy cakes according to recipe and wait! Whilst waiting make your frosting. I made mint green frosting just because its my favorite!

Step 4.

Once cupcake are slighty browned and springy to touch bring them out of the oven and allow to cool. Once cooled prepare your frosting in a ‘real’ piping bag. I used an actual sugar cookie piping bag as they use bigger nozzles! Push all the frosting down into the nozzle, twist the rest of the bag around your haznd and apply pressure. Piping bags look really daunting at first, but they are my favorite to use now! Start on the outer part of the cupcake and apply pressure to your piping bag and go around in a swirl until you read the middle of the cupcake. Slightly push down and up to creat a ‘lick’ and whilst doing that take the pressure off the piping bag. It takes a little practice, but so much fun when you get the hang of it! Repeat for all 12 cupcakes!

Step 5.

Sprinkle with desired sprinkles, allow the frosting to set for a while say 30 mins to and hour ( you can eat them straight away but frankly i like the frosting to get a little more solid) then make yourself a nice cup of blackberry and apple tea and its nom nom cupcake time!

Attack of the Spring closet itch!

Since stumbling across some photos of Catherine Baba wearing differently styled kimono pieces I’ve realized what a clever clever idea! So versatile, girly and superchic! I’m going to hunt down some vintage ones on ebay/etsy and also try Camden markets. I’m going to buy what ever lengths and cut them down to just past the hip and wear over skirts and other such goodness! I do have one kimono style robe but I’m a little scared to attack it with a pair of scissors just yet! I’m going to team it with big necklaces….and I’m not sure what else I think ‘Piling it on’ comes to mind!

Catherine Baba is the ultimate inspiration

I think it also a natural progression to wear get inspired by robes too. I guess the whole underwear as outerwear pops to mind!

How cute would this be over a little tea dress?+heels and socks!

Also the latest from Vivienne westwood…I love.

Also keep your eyes peeled! I am working on two fashion accesory tutorials! Hopefully they will be up in the next week or so

A great Discovery! + Valentines ideas.

Sometimes I think of some really great things to make either for my shop or just for my own use. Sometimes these ideas can take months to come to full fruition because I get so doubtful of my abilities. But alas, last night I made  a great discovery, an idea I had for making hats that little more realistic and relevant to the 1940s style that I often chase. Deep down I knew I could do it, but I get so scared of failing, that I don’t end up doing it! But after figuring out a very good foundation for making hats I feel way more confident to trial out some others ideas I’ve had for years months!

Also, I’m starting to get pretty excited about Valentines day. My boyfriend and I are pretty big on spending quality time together. But Valentines just makes it a little extra special. I’m thinking some old romance movies, cupcakes and snuggles! Here are some tutorials that I’ve found and will be working on before Valentines. Also some valentines inspiration pictures…..plus loads of cupcake ideas! Gotta love those cupcakes. x

I will be making a lovely pancake or crepe breakfast on valentines morning….how romantic to add little hearts to the tea bags!

I will be starting on these tonight! I’ve seen these around before, but this tutorial is really simple, well in theory!

Remember painting with carved potatoes? This idea is fun+cute!

Kurt LOVES my devils food cake and my cupcakes (Yes that is red velvet up top but it was cute and I wanted to show you!) but he cant stand chocolate cupcakes! SO, I’m going to make a cool devils food cake and I’m going to try out this amazing idea for rainbow cupcakes! I think I’m going to do cream cheese for the frosting!

This is the cake version of the rainbow phenomena….but this is the best one I’ve seen yet!

And these because they are just so darn cute!
