Attack of the Spring closet itch!

March 9th, 2010 § 0

Since stumbling across some photos of Catherine Baba wearing differently styled kimono pieces I’ve realized what a clever clever idea! So versatile, girly and superchic! I’m going to hunt down some vintage ones on ebay/etsy and also try Camden markets. I’m going to buy what ever lengths and cut them down to just past the hip and wear over skirts and other such goodness! I do have one kimono style robe but I’m a little scared to attack it with a pair of scissors just yet! I’m going to team it with big necklaces….and I’m not sure what else I think ‘Piling it on’ comes to mind!

Catherine Baba is the ultimate inspiration

I think it also a natural progression to wear get inspired by robes too. I guess the whole underwear as outerwear pops to mind!

How cute would this be over a little tea dress?+heels and socks!

Also the latest from Vivienne westwood…I love.

Also keep your eyes peeled! I am working on two fashion accesory tutorials! Hopefully they will be up in the next week or so

My favorite Vintage accessory-The Tilt Hat

February 2nd, 2010 § 0

I’m not sure if its the romance or just the pure chic-ness that has me all excited about tilt hats! I’ve been collecting vintage hats for a few years now and I love all different types and from different era’s. But the tilt hat really takes the biscuit. Tilt hats are hats that are supposed to tilt forward on the crown of the head. From the tilt hats I’ve seen they come with either a plain disc or wire ring that sits to the back of the head and supports the frivolous hat at the front. I hope I’m making sense here. I’m going to post some photos now of some very great tilt hats. And hopefully soon enough I can show you a few of my hats, and my very favorite tilt hat!

This one is probably my favorite hat of all time. I love the idea of a mini boater hat, plus the frilling and the chic black and white gingham fabric, not to mention the matching gloves!

Queen Amidala/1940s inspiration

January 23rd, 2010 § 0

I happened to stumble across something very intersting whilst researching 1940s clothing/movie costumes. It is a front cover of a 1940s paper doll book (see below), if you are an avid star wars fan you will instantly see the similarities with the costume on the furthest right and with the ‘red invasion costume’ worn by Queen Amidala in episode one of Star Wars! Even if you arent a fan, I’m sure you could see the similarities also! Unfortunately after researching Queen Amidala’s costumes I found that someone else had also spotted this similarity. Alas I am not disheartened that I didnt stumble across this great find first but just appreciative that my memory of movies and costume is alive and kicking! I thought since Queen Amidala’s costumes are so amazing I would share my favorites with you!

glam40slrg-157-327tI used to think this one below was my favorite because it was so light and fluffy…

The thirst for Plaid

January 15th, 2010 § 0

As far back as I can remember I have loved plaid/tartan. Its perfect in so many ways and ties in many of my favorite looks. I love it every which way possible!

It doesnt come at a shock that I love Vivienne Westwood the most, she she is the queen of reinventing the plaid!

Here are a few items that got my eyes popping out of my head and ended in an epic lust!

Happy Sunday!

January 10th, 2010 § 0

I have been sick the past few days, but this morning I awoke feeling on top of the world! I made a cool new bow for my shop, I was selling huge ones but I think people prefer a tad smaller. The new version has lots of pretty rhinestones soon. I’m working on lots of new head wear, it can be tricky working out the best contructions methods and materials hence why they take so long to get into my shop, if that ever happens! I made yummy cupcakes which I didnt take a photo of, although they do go pretty darn fast around my boyfriend!

Here are some cool things I found today on the wonderful internet! I have always had this addiction to stationery. when I was young I would always spend my pocket money on new staplers and pens and paper. My favourite is paper goods though…i mean I really love paper!

AND before I forget….I got the lolcat book from Amazon whilst christmas shopping….hehe its so funny definately worth getting!

rainbowsetThis is such a cool jumper. I love stripes, and this jumper would be so versatile! You could wear it in the 70s style with jeans or some highwaisted slacks OR you could tuck it in to a high waisted skirt for a 40s look. I think it would work! Dreamy!

il_430xN.107822624I’ve never bought stamps before, but I’d really love to start stamping, looks like fun with sets like these! So great for brightening up letters and such!

il_430xN.111844934This is the most greatest idea ever! Last year I totally had overdue library fees worth £30! I got confused with borrowing times, so silly! This is such a cute way of remembering and the price is so great! I seriously LOVE this shop!

Favorites/Paris weekend

November 9th, 2009 § 0

I got a tiny bit over-excited about my citron macaron!

I got a tiny bit over-excited about my citron macaron

I went to Paris on the weekend and had the most amazing time. The city is so full of history and beautiful buildings. I nearly wanted to cry when a French lady said “Merci”, I was like finally I’m in Paris! The Eiffel tower was so much bigger than I expected, Notre dame was beautiful and of course the Louvre was everything you would expect. The best experience of course was going to La Duree. We had the most gorgeous hot chocolate and the most amazing dessert I’ve ever even looked at. I bought a box of macarons that came in this gorgeous box that I will keep forever and ever! Paris is the perfect romantic city!

I’m not a HUGE mushroom fan, but this journal and plume pen set is so cute!

We’ve already got the titanic and space invaders tray now I need more! These tiki heads would be perfect for silly luau parties.

This is so adorable!!!! Lollipop brooch, why didn’t I think of that?

This is so exciting! I’ve always loved with Jane Austen’s pride and prejudice, and this book puts you right in it! its silly, but totally cute!

This is definitely on my wish list for Christmas, actually I might have to go out and by one BEFORE then!

Its getting mighty cold London now, so I’m in need of a good little milk pan, this one looks perfect!

Got to go now, home time! x

The weekend

September 28th, 2009 § 0

I had such a nice weekend, Saturday I spent the day unpacking and my sewing area is looking nearly finished. Love unpacking all my pretty things and placing them all nicely in the new house. I just cant wait for everything be back to normal, I’ve got so many pending projects! Saturday afternoon I took some pictures of the kittens…they are growing up so fast and getting very very naughty! Sunday we went into town and I went to one of my favorite stores, paper chase, I know its not that brilliant but for a stationery addict like myself its the best fun a  girl can have! They have started getting in their Halloween merch and even have their entire Christmas shop open! They have glittery skulls for Halloween, and all sorts of silliness! The Christmas decorations this year are so silly, pink fluffy poodles, and giant sequined owls! We usually go and buy a few new decorations every year. But this year I want to have a real Christmas tree and I’m going to make all the decorations following lots of tutorial from here. We also went into Forbidden planet (my boyfriends favorite store) its full of comics and figurines I picked up a couple of things for a swap im doing with a lovely couple from America that I met here. I even picked up a Star Trek compendium for my Dad for an amazing £1.99! I have a good mind to keep it for myself, but I have far too many books as it is!

Alucard...lickin' his lips

Alucard...lickin' his lips

We moved into a nice big house in North London recently and we decided to buy a nice vintage bar. Although we haven’t quite found what we are looking for, I’ve started buying all the lovely things to fill it with once we do. My first find was this lovely set of 1950s shot glasses with a cards/las Vegas theme. I love that in comes in a little caddy, it makes it so nice and neat….and uber cute!

We finished off our Sunday outing with a visit to our favorite place in Soho, Paul’s Patisserie. Its the most amazing place to have a spot of pastry. Kurt is in love with their cappuccinos and pain Au raisin , I on the other hand LOVE the hot chocolate and tart citron! I’ll remind myself to take a photo next time!

I’ll post pictures later this week of my paparchase purchases, and my finished sewing area…once I finish it ofcourse!
