This weekend ….so far!

February 6th, 2010 § 0

Today was such a nice day, I got up nice and early and made a big apple pie. I think this is the first time I’ve made one on my own, but cant quite remember! It turned out great, although the dish I chose was probably a little too deep…10 apples hardly filled it! IMG_4578IMG_4581IMG_4585I also made a cute leopard print pillbox hat which is cute! Got a few differant styles to be made for the shop. I will post photos tomorrow! Got to go now ad sort the hundreds of buttons that I won on ebay.

A great Discovery! + Valentines ideas.

February 3rd, 2010 § 0

Sometimes I think of some really great things to make either for my shop or just for my own use. Sometimes these ideas can take months to come to full fruition because I get so doubtful of my abilities. But alas, last night I made  a great discovery, an idea I had for making hats that little more realistic and relevant to the 1940s style that I often chase. Deep down I knew I could do it, but I get so scared of failing, that I don’t end up doing it! But after figuring out a very good foundation for making hats I feel way more confident to trial out some others ideas I’ve had for years months!

Also, I’m starting to get pretty excited about Valentines day. My boyfriend and I are pretty big on spending quality time together. But Valentines just makes it a little extra special. I’m thinking some old romance movies, cupcakes and snuggles! Here are some tutorials that I’ve found and will be working on before Valentines. Also some valentines inspiration pictures…..plus loads of cupcake ideas! Gotta love those cupcakes. x

I will be making a lovely pancake or crepe breakfast on valentines morning….how romantic to add little hearts to the tea bags!

I will be starting on these tonight! I’ve seen these around before, but this tutorial is really simple, well in theory!

Remember painting with carved potatoes? This idea is fun+cute!

Kurt LOVES my devils food cake and my cupcakes (Yes that is red velvet up top but it was cute and I wanted to show you!) but he cant stand chocolate cupcakes! SO, I’m going to make a cool devils food cake and I’m going to try out this amazing idea for rainbow cupcakes! I think I’m going to do cream cheese for the frosting!

This is the cake version of the rainbow phenomena….but this is the best one I’ve seen yet!

And these because they are just so darn cute!

This Week!

February 2nd, 2010 § 0

I’ve have some exciting ideas and goals to achieve this week, I don’t want to say quite yet, but I’m pretty excited! Sometimes I decide on a certain direction in life/ hobbies/ styles then a week later I’ve been inspired for somethnig completely differant. I find life so much easier if I KNOW what I’m meant to be doing otherwise I get all sidetrack and dont manage to get much done! Okay….that was a bit of a ranty rant rant!

So here are so pretty images I came across this week…Enjoy! x

This girl is Clever!

I LOVE this artist…so amazing.

This is the most inspiring craft area!

I NEED to go back to Paris…its so romantic and pretty.

Love little vintage rooms.

I’m going to go thrifting this weekend and search for more and more! I love!

My favorite Vintage accessory-The Tilt Hat

February 2nd, 2010 § 0

I’m not sure if its the romance or just the pure chic-ness that has me all excited about tilt hats! I’ve been collecting vintage hats for a few years now and I love all different types and from different era’s. But the tilt hat really takes the biscuit. Tilt hats are hats that are supposed to tilt forward on the crown of the head. From the tilt hats I’ve seen they come with either a plain disc or wire ring that sits to the back of the head and supports the frivolous hat at the front. I hope I’m making sense here. I’m going to post some photos now of some very great tilt hats. And hopefully soon enough I can show you a few of my hats, and my very favorite tilt hat!

This one is probably my favorite hat of all time. I love the idea of a mini boater hat, plus the frilling and the chic black and white gingham fabric, not to mention the matching gloves!

New kitchens, the 1940s way!

February 1st, 2010 § 0

I’ve always loved looking at other peoples homes and interior decorating. I especially love photos from past eras such as the 40’s and 50s well anything pre1980’s is pretty fun! I don’t have my own house yet which can be very limiting, but I love collecting nice new and old pieces of furniture and lots of trinkets. It may be  little early but I’m always researching homes and interiors so that when that day arrives I will have lots of knowledge and hopefully know exactly what I want!

I am hoping to be living and owning a house in Sydney in the next few years and there are lots of older houses in certain parts of Sydney.  I think one has to be mindful of buying such old houses but the things I will be looking for mostly will be the exterior, I want something art deco or ‘cottage’ style. It would look awfully silly having a brand new looking house with 1950s interiors! I think if you look for a fireplace, decorative ceilings and old styled windows you can turn any house into your dream vintage home.

I’ve found a few websites with resources and galleries. I’ve also found a few cool sites for retro appliances, decor and nick nacks’.

My favorite kitchens! I’m loving kitchens with built in booths, so cute for a family!

These kitchens were found here. This is a fantastic site!

For the color scheme I love mint green and pink! Its fun and fresh and totally kitsch!

I would have the walls in the minty green and have the kitchen cupboards and curtains in the pink. Another alternative to painting the walls would be, if I could find some plaid wallpaper, YES I would have plaid wallpaper in a  heart beat if I could! As seen in mad men also!

As for appliances I love the Aga ovens and Smeg fridges!

I love this website for dishwashers! Realistically though, I think you would have to stick to one brand for all appliances others they would be all different shades of green! If it were black you were after then I’m sure you could mis and match!

For small appliances there are some great shops in the U.K and most brands are producing some great retro looking appliances! Try Here for toasters and kettles. If you want the cream of the crop then try here.

Etsy and Ebay are the best places to find vintage kitchenware. Here are some things I found on etsy!

Queen Amidala/1940s inspiration

January 23rd, 2010 § 0

I happened to stumble across something very intersting whilst researching 1940s clothing/movie costumes. It is a front cover of a 1940s paper doll book (see below), if you are an avid star wars fan you will instantly see the similarities with the costume on the furthest right and with the ‘red invasion costume’ worn by Queen Amidala in episode one of Star Wars! Even if you arent a fan, I’m sure you could see the similarities also! Unfortunately after researching Queen Amidala’s costumes I found that someone else had also spotted this similarity. Alas I am not disheartened that I didnt stumble across this great find first but just appreciative that my memory of movies and costume is alive and kicking! I thought since Queen Amidala’s costumes are so amazing I would share my favorites with you!

glam40slrg-157-327tI used to think this one below was my favorite because it was so light and fluffy…

Grace Kelly

January 19th, 2010 § 0

One of my favorite things to do in London is to go to the Victoria and Albert Museum. They regularly have tremendous exhibitions, I’d say some of the best in London. The last time I went there, they had the Anthology of Hats by Stephen Jones who is a prominent hat designer from London. From April-September they will be having an exhibition on Grace Kelly showcasing 50 outfits (35 of which are haute couture)  plus jewelery, accessories and the famous original Kelly Hermes bag. I believe this is one of those exhibitions that could very much be a once in a lifetime opportunity!

The thirst for Plaid

January 15th, 2010 § 0

As far back as I can remember I have loved plaid/tartan. Its perfect in so many ways and ties in many of my favorite looks. I love it every which way possible!

It doesnt come at a shock that I love Vivienne Westwood the most, she she is the queen of reinventing the plaid!

Here are a few items that got my eyes popping out of my head and ended in an epic lust!

Happy Sunday!

January 10th, 2010 § 0

I have been sick the past few days, but this morning I awoke feeling on top of the world! I made a cool new bow for my shop, I was selling huge ones but I think people prefer a tad smaller. The new version has lots of pretty rhinestones soon. I’m working on lots of new head wear, it can be tricky working out the best contructions methods and materials hence why they take so long to get into my shop, if that ever happens! I made yummy cupcakes which I didnt take a photo of, although they do go pretty darn fast around my boyfriend!

Here are some cool things I found today on the wonderful internet! I have always had this addiction to stationery. when I was young I would always spend my pocket money on new staplers and pens and paper. My favourite is paper goods though…i mean I really love paper!

AND before I forget….I got the lolcat book from Amazon whilst christmas shopping….hehe its so funny definately worth getting!

rainbowsetThis is such a cool jumper. I love stripes, and this jumper would be so versatile! You could wear it in the 70s style with jeans or some highwaisted slacks OR you could tuck it in to a high waisted skirt for a 40s look. I think it would work! Dreamy!

il_430xN.107822624I’ve never bought stamps before, but I’d really love to start stamping, looks like fun with sets like these! So great for brightening up letters and such!

il_430xN.111844934This is the most greatest idea ever! Last year I totally had overdue library fees worth £30! I got confused with borrowing times, so silly! This is such a cute way of remembering and the price is so great! I seriously LOVE this shop!

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day

January 9th, 2010 § 0

I finally got around to watching this film the other night with my boyfriend. Its such a cute/feel good film. The costumes were gorgeous, and Miss Pettigrew was an amalgamation of all that is good. There are some really pretty costumes and some really funny scenes. I’m begining to love Amy Adams shes so good at acting! She was also in Julie and Julia, and adorable at that! If you get the time towatch it, it is definately worth your while!

This was my favourite outfit, the light blue dress and matching hat. I WANT that hat!

My boyfriend also got me a copy of the Secret Garden, which I hope to watch this weekend. When I was a child I would ALWAYS dream of having my very own wonderful secret garden. I think I even found an antique key I used to carry around the garden with me in search of that garden. oh dear!
