Attack of the Spring closet itch!

March 9th, 2010 § 0

Since stumbling across some photos of Catherine Baba wearing differently styled kimono pieces I’ve realized what a clever clever idea! So versatile, girly and superchic! I’m going to hunt down some vintage ones on ebay/etsy and also try Camden markets. I’m going to buy what ever lengths and cut them down to just past the hip and wear over skirts and other such goodness! I do have one kimono style robe but I’m a little scared to attack it with a pair of scissors just yet! I’m going to team it with big necklaces….and I’m not sure what else I think ‘Piling it on’ comes to mind!

Catherine Baba is the ultimate inspiration

I think it also a natural progression to wear get inspired by robes too. I guess the whole underwear as outerwear pops to mind!

How cute would this be over a little tea dress?+heels and socks!

Also the latest from Vivienne westwood…I love.

Also keep your eyes peeled! I am working on two fashion accesory tutorials! Hopefully they will be up in the next week or so

It’s Saturday!

March 6th, 2010 § 0

I woke up so nice and early this morning (I’m a morning person) and got to working on some new items for my store! Well that was UNTIL I couldnt find my stash of hot glu gun sticks! Eeek….how annoying is that? I’ve got lots of other sewing to do, but still! I was really into making this new stuff, but now I’ll have to wait until I order some more!

I tidied up my buttons last week, I want to find more bright colors! The carboot sales will be starting up again in the next few weeks and will go crazy in the summer….so hopefully I can stock up on all sorts of vintage goodies!

I ordered some sublime stitches patterns the other week and here is one that I did this week! Isnt she adorable? I love unicorns. I’m  going to use it as a center piece and patchwork around it for a pillow. I’m now working on a tara Mcpherson pattern! FUN!

Well I must go, got lots of work to do.

Sockies and Shoesies!

February 24th, 2010 § 0

Why does the sock and high heel look never get tired? I’m so in love with mismatching colors and different textures! I’ve recently become addicted to topshop socks! I love lace socks with cute wedges for Spring/Summer!

Here is some pics of what I’m going on about!

This girl is adorable!

These are a bit wintery..but still!

Where on Earth are the Stockings from? So amazing?!?!

Oh and another thing! I want to crimp my hair all spring…socks+heels+crimped hair=AMAZING!

Its nearly Spring…then Summer!

February 23rd, 2010 § 0

I’m so excited about the months ahead….spring and Summer. After the horribly cold snowing months of the winter seasons I am more than ready for the coming seasons although not physically ready! We moved into a nice house in North London late last year and it has a huge deck and quite a big patch of grass area. So the decking will be perfect for our summer BBQ’s and the garden area will be great for some gardening and a fun area for the cats to hang out in. At the moment this whole area is quite bare…! I need to grow some more grass as it is a little sparse and I’m going to plant some cat grass in random pots for the kitties to nibble on (apparently it helps them with fur balls). Once I get the grass growing all lush I’m going to decorate with some gnomes and plant some ‘bunny tail’ seeds. Its a sort of grass with little furry buds on the end. Of course I need to buy some big pots and plant some shrubberies and nice flowers. I think I definitely have my work cut out for me!

Okay I think that is enough pictures! Goodness me I’m excited!

I’m feeling like some girlyness!

February 22nd, 2010 § 0

I’m giving my house a bit of a re-vamp for the spring/summer seasons! There are so many fun things you can do to brighten up or change a room! I going to have a crack at making some fun bunting for my kitchen (with Cath Kidston fabrics). I’m going to get a canopy net for my bed, I think that will make it really adorable and ive never had one in London. I’ve still got loads of cushions I’m making for the lounge, but we want to buy another bookshelf and finally get the art deco bar we have been coveting for months! It was sunny here on Saturday in London So I opened all the blinds in the kitchen and opened the windows right up and it was a tiny glimpse into the summer ahead and I’m so excited to get my house in order for all the entertaining and lazy Sundays ahead!

I love clutter like this..and that lace bunting decoration is adorable.

I NEED this

Isnt this the most interesting sewing room!?!

On another note, my blog is currently undergoing a much need makeover! My boyfriend is putting in all the labor and I am yelling out demands….expect something great! And hopefully I will actually have a ‘follow’ tool!

This weekend ….so far!

February 6th, 2010 § 0

Today was such a nice day, I got up nice and early and made a big apple pie. I think this is the first time I’ve made one on my own, but cant quite remember! It turned out great, although the dish I chose was probably a little too deep…10 apples hardly filled it! IMG_4578IMG_4581IMG_4585I also made a cute leopard print pillbox hat which is cute! Got a few differant styles to be made for the shop. I will post photos tomorrow! Got to go now ad sort the hundreds of buttons that I won on ebay.

A great Discovery! + Valentines ideas.

February 3rd, 2010 § 0

Sometimes I think of some really great things to make either for my shop or just for my own use. Sometimes these ideas can take months to come to full fruition because I get so doubtful of my abilities. But alas, last night I made  a great discovery, an idea I had for making hats that little more realistic and relevant to the 1940s style that I often chase. Deep down I knew I could do it, but I get so scared of failing, that I don’t end up doing it! But after figuring out a very good foundation for making hats I feel way more confident to trial out some others ideas I’ve had for years months!

Also, I’m starting to get pretty excited about Valentines day. My boyfriend and I are pretty big on spending quality time together. But Valentines just makes it a little extra special. I’m thinking some old romance movies, cupcakes and snuggles! Here are some tutorials that I’ve found and will be working on before Valentines. Also some valentines inspiration pictures…..plus loads of cupcake ideas! Gotta love those cupcakes. x

I will be making a lovely pancake or crepe breakfast on valentines morning….how romantic to add little hearts to the tea bags!

I will be starting on these tonight! I’ve seen these around before, but this tutorial is really simple, well in theory!

Remember painting with carved potatoes? This idea is fun+cute!

Kurt LOVES my devils food cake and my cupcakes (Yes that is red velvet up top but it was cute and I wanted to show you!) but he cant stand chocolate cupcakes! SO, I’m going to make a cool devils food cake and I’m going to try out this amazing idea for rainbow cupcakes! I think I’m going to do cream cheese for the frosting!

This is the cake version of the rainbow phenomena….but this is the best one I’ve seen yet!

And these because they are just so darn cute!

This Week!

February 2nd, 2010 § 0

I’ve have some exciting ideas and goals to achieve this week, I don’t want to say quite yet, but I’m pretty excited! Sometimes I decide on a certain direction in life/ hobbies/ styles then a week later I’ve been inspired for somethnig completely differant. I find life so much easier if I KNOW what I’m meant to be doing otherwise I get all sidetrack and dont manage to get much done! Okay….that was a bit of a ranty rant rant!

So here are so pretty images I came across this week…Enjoy! x

This girl is Clever!

I LOVE this artist…so amazing.

This is the most inspiring craft area!

I NEED to go back to Paris…its so romantic and pretty.

Love little vintage rooms.

Buttons! I went a little button mad this weekend and won a whole load of vintage/new ones on ebay.

I’m going to go thrifting this weekend and search for more and more! I love!

My favorite Vintage accessory-The Tilt Hat

February 2nd, 2010 § 0

I’m not sure if its the romance or just the pure chic-ness that has me all excited about tilt hats! I’ve been collecting vintage hats for a few years now and I love all different types and from different era’s. But the tilt hat really takes the biscuit. Tilt hats are hats that are supposed to tilt forward on the crown of the head. From the tilt hats I’ve seen they come with either a plain disc or wire ring that sits to the back of the head and supports the frivolous hat at the front. I hope I’m making sense here. I’m going to post some photos now of some very great tilt hats. And hopefully soon enough I can show you a few of my hats, and my very favorite tilt hat!

This one is probably my favorite hat of all time. I love the idea of a mini boater hat, plus the frilling and the chic black and white gingham fabric, not to mention the matching gloves!

New kitchens, the 1940s way!

February 1st, 2010 § 1

I’ve always loved looking at other peoples homes and interior decorating. I especially love photos from past eras such as the 40’s and 50s well anything pre1980’s is pretty fun! I don’t have my own house yet which can be very limiting, but I love collecting nice new and old pieces of furniture and lots of trinkets. It may be  little early but I’m always researching homes and interiors so that when that day arrives I will have lots of knowledge and hopefully know exactly what I want!

I am hoping to be living and owning a house in Sydney in the next few years and there are lots of older houses in certain parts of Sydney.  I think one has to be mindful of buying such old houses but the things I will be looking for mostly will be the exterior, I want something art deco or ‘cottage’ style. It would look awfully silly having a brand new looking house with 1950s interiors! I think if you look for a fireplace, decorative ceilings and old styled windows you can turn any house into your dream vintage home.

I’ve found a few websites with resources and galleries. I’ve also found a few cool sites for retro appliances, decor and nick nacks’.

My favorite kitchens! I’m loving kitchens with built in booths, so cute for a family!

These kitchens were found here. This is a fantastic site!

For the color scheme I love mint green and pink! Its fun and fresh and totally kitsch!

I would have the walls in the minty green and have the kitchen cupboards and curtains in the pink. Another alternative to painting the walls would be, if I could find some plaid wallpaper, YES I would have plaid wallpaper in a  heart beat if I could! As seen in mad men also!

As for appliances I love the Aga ovens and Smeg fridges!

I love this website for dishwashers! Realistically though, I think you would have to stick to one brand for all appliances others they would be all different shades of green! If it were black you were after then I’m sure you could mis and match!

For small appliances there are some great shops in the U.K and most brands are producing some great retro looking appliances! Try Here for toasters and kettles. If you want the cream of the crop then try here.

Etsy and Ebay are the best places to find vintage kitchenware. Here are some things I found on etsy!
